Straumann delivers cutting-edge esthetics with new monotype ceramic implant

Media Release

Andover, 17 February 2016 – Today, patients are more conscious of their health and esthetics than ever before.  Healthy-looking oral soft tissues and bright teeth are considered a prerequisite for a beautiful smile and self-esteem, adding directly to an improved quality of life.1-3

To address patient preferences and continue our tradition of delivering premium esthetic solutions,  Straumann’s lastest implant innovation, the Straumann® PURE Ceramic Implant, is now available in the United States. The Straumann® PURE Ceramic Implant is a monotype design that consists of an implant and abutment made from zirconium-dioxide ceramic. The new design is based on the scientifically supported features of the Straumann® Soft Tissue Level Standard Plus and Straumann® Bone Level Implants. The natural-looking ivory color makes the implant look more like a natural tooth and supports the clinician in cases of thin gingivia biotype or soft tissue recession.

100% Proof Test
As part of Straumann’s rigorous quality control measures, all Straumann PURE Ceramic Implants are proof-tested. Every single implant passes a 360° mechanical strength quality check before being packaged and shipped to the customer, delivering a level of confidence and high product standard that is unparalleled in the industry.  In this test, forces that exceed the maximum human bite capacity are applied and only implants that pass the test are delivered to the dentist.

Surface Technology Innovation
The Straumann PURE Ceramic Implant features the exclusive Straumann ZLA® surface, which is based on the well documented Straumann SLA® surface. The ZLA and SLA surfaces have very similar topographies. Published research data4-6 indicates a similar healing pattern, healing time of 6 – 12 weeks and bone maintenance for the ZLA and the SLA surface. The ZLA surface demonstrates fast and predictable osseointegration, which is beneficial in successful implant treatment.

Unparalled Development
Much like the surface technologies of SLA and SLActive® that pioneered further surface developments and the positioning of SLA as the “gold standard” in implant surface technology, the ZLA surface further validates Straumann’s commitment to innovative dentistry that enhances quality of life for patients.

Commented Arjan Haverhals, Vice President Customer Marketing and Education, Straumann North America: “The PURE Ceramic Implant is the perfect symbiosis of who Straumann is as a company. The availability of a predictable, metal-free implant addresses a previously unmet need voiced by specialists and surgeons; as the global leader in implant dentistry, we prioritized creating a surface technology for a metal-free implant that delivers the predictability and reliability customers should expect from Straumann.  When you combine the scientifically-substantiated ZLA surface with the unparalled quality control of the 100% proof test, we believe the PURE Ceramic Implant will serve as the gold standard for metal-free, esthetic implants for years to come.”

The Straumann PURE Ceramic Implant can be placed with the existing surgical kit while using a similar surgical procedure as for all other Straumann implants.

Clinicians can experience the PURE Ceramic Implant for the first time at the Annual Academy of Osseointegration Meeting in San Diego, CA February 17-20, Booth #513.  Additionally, interested clinicians may visit straumann.us or contact our dedicated representatives at 800/448 8168 to place an order.
